Oktoberfest beer prices up 42% in decade

Oktoberfest is the world’s largest fair held
annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany and Destatis, the federal statistics office
says that every year in autumn, on the occasion of the the price of one litre of
beer sold there is a topic of conversation. Prices have rise by 42% in a decade

for all brands of beer exceed €9 per litre.

 Destatis says the increase in beer prices
at the Oktoberfest is larger than in restaurants or shops.

The price of one litre of beer at the Oktoberfest
rose 42% from 2002 to 2012. In the same period, beer prices in restaurants were
up by just 18%, while the price development in shops was even more
consumer-friendly (+12.7%).

Total consumer prices increased 17.5% in this
period. On average, the price of one litre of beer at the Oktoberfest was up
3.6% per year from 2002 to 2012. This year, too, visitors of the largest local
festival of the world will have to expect higher prices than last year.
