Marie Hohenberger

NEW BAVARIA — Marie Hohenberger, 101, died Thursday morning, January 29, 2015, at Vancrest Healthcare Center of Holgate. She was born in Defiance County, June 22, 1913. She was the daughter of Harry and Maude (Weisz) Harper. In 1931, Marie graduated from Defiance High School. She married Virgil Hohenberger on July 30, 1932, who died in 1969. She was a member of Emanuel’s Christian Church, New Bavaria, and the church historian. She had been a Sunday school teacher for many years. She served on the Lay Life and work committee of the Northwest Association of the church. She was a member of Emanuel’s Women’s Guild and served as president, secretary and treasurer at different times. Marie was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class and study group.

Surviving are a son, Thomas (Elaine) Hohenberger and daughter Judy (David) Roehrig; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Marie was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Marie Theiroff; a grandson; and sisters, Mabel Barringer and Grace Pfau.

Friends will be received in the Zachrich Funeral Home, 114 William Street, Holgate, on Sunday from 2-8 p.m. and again one hour before the church service. The celebration of Marie’s life will be Monday, February 2, 2015, at Emanuel’s Christian Church, New Bavaria, at 10:30 a.m., with Pastor Jason Walls officiating.
