BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe coming in 2019 with RWD?

A new report coming from Germany indicates BMW has plans to introduce a 2-Series Gran Coupe sometime in 2019.

As the years pass by, BMW’s lineup keeps on growing and it seems another new member is getting ready to join the family. Our friends at BMWBLOG are citing undisclosed sources close to Bavaria that are saying a 2-Series Gran Coupe is in the works and will be out in 2019 with a rear-wheel drive layout. This means it will be a four-door version of the 2-Series Coupe rather than a coupe-fied 1-Series Sedan.

2019 sounds a bit late in the game taking into account the next-generation 2-Series Coupe is due in 2021. BMW’s Chief Development Officer, Klaus Fröhlich, apparently wants to have the car ready before the end of the decade to join the 2-Series Coupe and Convertible body styles. It will allegedly feature an elongated wheelbase compared to the regular coupe, so expect a more accommodating cabin with additional space in the back.

It’s not the only new model planned by BMW as the Germans are also working on an X2 “crossover coupe” and a large X7 set to sit on top of the SUV range. In addition, rumors have suggested a new halo sportscar is on the agenda to celebrate the company’s 100th anniversary next year.
