What Scotland Saved

The Kingdom remains United, and we Bavarians are not amused. We had been hoping for Scottish independence, though hardly for selfless reasons. Had the nationalists won Thursday’s vote, my very own Duke Franz of Bavaria would have been first in line for the Scottish throne. He is the true heir of Queen Anne, the last Stuart, who died childless after 17 pregnancies, but not before unifying Scotland and England in 1707. All good Jacobites call Franz, “Francis II, King of England, Scotland, Ireland and France.”
