December 18, 2015

The giant Christmas tree in St. Peter’s Square was illuminate, and the crèche scene was unveiled, in a short ceremony on December 18.

This year’s Christmas tree at the Vatican, a gift from Bavaria, stands over 100 feet high and is decorated with energy-saving LED lights.

The Nativity scene, from the Trento archdiocese in Italy, includes 24 life-sized figures, including one special figure of an old man being assisted by others, as a message for the Year of Mercy.
