Police said a train in northern Bavaria hit a heavy goods truck that was carrying a US military vehicle.

Police spokesperson Albert Bueck explained what happened:

“Yesterday evening, at around 10, a heavy goods vehicle came to a standstill on a railway crossing. A regional train came and hit the front of it, dragging it for several hundred metres. Both vehicles caught fire. The truck is completely burnt out, and the train engine is also burnt out.”

There were 50 people onboard the train at the time.

The driver of the truck, a Romanian, was pronounced dead at the scene. The body of the train driver who also died was found later.
