Traditional-style German Bier Stein Keller to open in Newcastle next week

A flavour of Germany comes to Newcastle city centre next week with the launch of a traditional-style beer hall set to conjure up the oompah band atmosphere of Bavaria.

The Stein Bier Keller will open in the unused cellars of the Royal Buildings at City Vaults following a £650,000 investment by Newcastle-based Tokyo Industries.

They promise an authentic look, live oompah bands and top German beers served in stein glasses.

The company, which runs the Digital club, also will be offering a menu featuring German sausages and its lay-out, with Bavarian décor, will see food and drink served at traditional communal bench seating.

The November 28 opening follows the successful launch of a Stein Bier Keller in York and Nigel Holliday, director of Tokyo Industries, said: “We’re really excited to be bringing this unique drinking and dining experience to Newcastle.

“Stein Bier Keller York became hugely popular after just a few weeks. At the Newcastle site we’ve created 50 new jobs and what we believe is something different and fun for the city.”

And it’s not just something for beer-lovers, he said, although they will be well catered for with world and local brewery additions to the German menu on offer.

There will be a range of drinks, including cocktail steins, created by drinks consultants The Liquorists.

Entry will be free and, after the Friday launch, the keller will be open Wednesday to Saturday, from 8pm (noon on Saturdays) until late.
