Town to keep Adolf Hitler’s honorary citizenship

A small German town has sparked outrage by refusing to scrap Adolf Hitler‘s honorary citizenship.

Politicians in Dietramszell, Bavaria, voted against removing the Fuhrer from their books after it emerged he was given the keys to the city in 1933.

They claimed it would be a “distortion of history” and would prefer to debate more contemporary issues.

But critics said the refusal of the town to disassociate itself from the brutal dictator is an “embarrassment.”

They also hinted that it, perhaps, revealed the “admiration” councilors still had for the long dead leader.

The Local reports that Mayor Leni Gröbmaier put forward the motion to strip Hitler of his honor after historian Agnes Wagner discovered he had been made an honorary citizen.

The nearby town of Münsing carried out a similar vote a few days earlier and passed it without discussion, the Local reports.

But in Dietramszell, councilors refused to play ball.

Eight voted for, with the same number against — so the motion fell flat.
