Name: Oktoberfest Marzen

Brewery: Big Time Brewery Alehouse, Seattle, Wash.

Style: Traditional German Marzen

ABV: 5.1%

Munich might be a 10 hour flight away, but the taste of Oktoberfest can be found right here on The Ave.

The name “Marzen” is German for “March” and pays homage to the beer’s roots. Traditionally, Marzens were brewed in Bavaria in March and were kept in cellars until they were broken out in celebration of Munich’s famous Oktoberfest beer festival.

The U-District’s own Big Time Brewery brings us a taste of old Germany with their malty Oktoberfest Marzen. Marzens can range in color from golden to rich red; Big Time’s easily-sippable Oktoberfest has a rich reddish-orange hue.

Because of it’s refreshing, slightly-sweet nature, the Oktoberfest pairs well with almost anything. For a real Oktoberfest experience, munch on salty pretzels dipped in hot mustard between sips.
