STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Ken Tirado has joined Staten Island Arts as a board member, the organization’s executive director, Christopher Hellstrom, said Monday.
Tirado, a Silver Lake resident, long-time arts supporter and owner of Killmeyer’s Old Bavaria Inn, was elected to the organization’s board last week. Staten Island Arts provides grants and support for local arts.
Tirado most recently stepped down as president of the Staten Island Shakespearean Theatre after the local theater company’s successful production of “Macbeth” this past summer at Fort Wadsworth.
For decades, Tirado has been a longtime supporter — and sometimes a constructive critic — of the theater community here. He also has his finger on the pulse of the local music scene, having booked Killmeyer’s live acts for the past 20 years, he said.
“I’m just hoping to be able to lend them some support,” Tirado said. “My background is more in performing arts than fine arts, but anything I can help them do I’d be happy to.”
Tirado co-created other successful restaurants such as Bayou and Adobe Blues. He also served on Community Board 1 for over a decade, and was on the Board of Directors of the Staten Island Children’s Museum.
“We are so pleased to have Ken as a part of our Board,” Staten Island Arts Board President Diane Kramer said. “He brings a wealth of experience and community contacts that will help Staten Island Arts continue to grow.”
The Board of Directors of Staten Island Arts includes: Diane Kramer-President, Patrick Jordan-Treasurer, Christopher Benbow, Esq.- 2nd Vice President, Valora Blackson, Donna Maxon-Secretary, Hal Minsky-board member emeritus, Maryann Piazza, Robert Shick-Vice President, Ken Tirado and Kelly Yim.
