Six injured in ammonia leak accident in S. Germany

MUNICH, July 24 (Xinhua) — Six people were injured in an ammonia leak accident on Friday in southern German state of Bavaria, local police said.

Ammonia gas leaked from the cooling system in a large butchery in the city of Kemnath, forcing an evacuation of about 400 employees due to safety consideration, a police spokesperson said.

One of the injured received first aid on the scene, while the others have been sent to hospital, who are suffering breathing difficulties, eye irritation and nausea, according to Bavarian police.

After the fire department ventilated the rooms, there is no risk for local residents and employees are allowed back to their offices.

Around 1,000 people work in the large butchery, which supplies supermarkets with meat and sausages.
