Shane Archbold’s team off podium in stage two of Bayern Rundfahrt

Shane Archbold is competing in the Bayern Rundfarht cycle race through Bavaria.

The team of Timaru cyclist Shane Archbold have lost the yellow jersey after missing the podium on the second day of Bayern Rundfahrt.

Bora-Argon’s Sam Bennett sprinted to an opening stage victory in the five-day race through Bavaria, Germany but could only manage fourth on the 179km second stage from Waldsassen to Selb.

Archbold again worked for the team and finished off the back of the peloton in 79th place, 39 seconds behind race-leader and stage winner John Degenkolb, who earlier in the year won Paris-Roubaix.

Fellow New Zealander Jack Bauer finished 20th. The third stage early on Saturday morning (NZ time), is a 206km ride from Selb to Ebern.
