Shane Archbold is riding for Bora-Argon in the Bayern Rundfahrt through Bavaria, Germany.
Timaru cyclist Shane Archbold has helped deliver his Bora-Argon teammate Sam Bennett to an opening stage victory in the five-day Bayern Rundfahrt race through Bavaria in Germany.
Archbold finished 100th, 37 seconds off the back of the peloton, after helping reel in a breakaway on the 221km stage from Regensburg to Waldsassen.
Fellow New Zealander Jack Bauer finished 23rd while Paris-Roubaix winner and race favourite John Degenkolb finished third.
The race will continue with the second stage early on Friday morning (NZ time), a 179km ride from Waldsassen to Selb.
