FRANKENMUTH, MI — Now that the high school students have joined the fun, all the snow carvers have taken there places at Frankenmuth’s huge winter festival.
Zehnder’s Snowfest is continuing all weekend in little Bavaria, with thousands upon thousands of bundled snow bunnies expected to take part in all the festivities.
There is something for everyone. Believe it or not, even the snow-hater in your family will find a way to have fun as the 23rd annual event continues through Monday, Jan. 27.
Here’s a look at the weekend’s schedule of events:
Friday, Jan. 24
- Snow carvers continue their work, with the world class competitors using their last 24 hours to perfect their various sculptures, located all around the Zehnder’s building, 730 S. Main. Wanna vote for the best? You can cast your vote all day.
- High school teams, who started their work Thursday, Jan. 23, continue to construct their pieces of snow art at Frankenmuth River Place, 925 S. Main. While you’re there, also check for the children’s sculptures.
- The State of Michigan snow sculpting contest continues right on Main Street, next to the Bavarian Inn Restaurant, 713 S. Main. Voting on the state sculptures begins today.
- The warming tent is open from 10 a.m. until midnight, offering a plethora of activities to keep you warm, fed and entertained. It’s a country theme in the tent with music from Hasley’s Old Timers from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., Shannon Johnson and Eric J. from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. and the Steel Wheels Band from 8 p.m. until midnight. Those 13 and up entering the tent after 6 p.m. will face a $5.00 cover charge. Food, beverages and a photo booth are also available inside the tent.
- Jamaican-themed putt-putt golf is just $2.00 for nine holes during the hours of 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. The course, constructed of ice-carved challenges is located in the Zehnder’s parking lot.
- Collegiate ice carving competitors show off their skills from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the “Under the Stars competition at the Edwin L. Zehnder Park.
- A children’s play area will offer up $2 pony rides and a free petting zoo from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. next to the Frankenmuth Toy Company, 618 S. Main.
Saturday, Jan. 25
- World class snow sculpting competitors, as well as state of Michigan sculptors must stop their work by 10 a.m. The public is invited to view the finished creations. Awards are handed out at 2 p.m. inside the warming tent.
- The warming tent is once again open from 10 a.m. until midnight, with classics day. Live music includes Hoolie from 10 a.m. until noon, Jedi Mind Trip from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. and the Rock Show from 8 p.m. until midnight. A $5 cover charge is once again in effect after 6 p.m. Food, beverages, magic, a photo booth, face apinting and more are also available inside the tent.
- The children’s play area offers up a free petting zoo from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., with $2 pony rides scheduled for noon to 6 p.m.
- Putt-putt golf with a Jamaican theme once again is offered for $2 from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m.
- The U.S. National Collegiate Ice Carving Competition starts at 3 p.m. at Edwin L. Zehnder Park.
- The annual fireworks display will light up the Frankenmuth sky starting at 6:45 p.m.
Sunday, Jan. 26
- The public is invited to view all of the completed snow sculptures.
- The U.S. National Collegiate Ice Carving Competition takes continues from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.
- The warming tent opens for one last day from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., offering food, beverages, face painting, a photo booth, magic and a performance by The Sauce Cats from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.
- The children’s play area offers $2 pony rides and a free petting zoo from noon until 5 p.m.
- The Jamaican, ice-carved putt-putt golf course is open from noon until 5 p.m., with tickets costing $2
