SAB Appoints Mauricio Leyva as Managing Director of Beer

Norman Adami to continue as SAB Chairman
Johannesburg, 22 October 2012 – The South African Breweries
(SAB) announced today that Mauricio Leyva has been
appointed Managing Director of SAB’s Beer Division,
effective 7 January 2013.
Leyva succeeds Norman Adami, who remains in his role as
Chairman of SAB and a member of the SABMiller EXCO, with
responsibility for SAB’s Beer Division, the soft drinks
company of Amalgamated Beverages Industries, and Appletiser
SA.
Leyva is currently President and CEO of Backus Johnson,
SABMiller’s operating unit in Peru. Prior to
that, he held several key leadership positions in
SABMiller’s Latin American operations, including
serving as the president of the company’s beer and soft
drinks business in Honduras, and as the vice president
heading Bavaria’s sales and marketing functions in
Colombia.
“Mauricio is one of SABMiller’s best operators
worldwide, and his skills, leadership and track record make
him a great choice to carry forward our strategy here in
South Africa,” said Adami.
Prior to joining Bavaria in 2005, Leyva worked in senior
commercial roles at Avianca, Colombia’s leading
airline, and at COMCEL, Colombia’s leading
telecom. He began his career with McKinsey Co in
Germany, and has earned a bachelor’s degree in business
administration from the Universidad d Los Andes, and a
specialization degree in international management from the
University de Nancy – Grande Ecole in France.
