Bayern Munich forward Arjen Robben expressed optimism over his club’s future this weekend, as the Pep Guardiola-era has officially kicked off in Bavaria, with the powerful Bundesliga side looking to defend both their league and Champions League titles this season.

Munich picked up right where they left off last season, which ended with a late winner by the Dutchman in the Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund, beating Borussia Monchengladbach 3-1 in their league opener.

Under the leadership of the legendary Catalan coach, Robben explained, the Bavarian club can dominate the game even more than they did last season, when they were widely regarded as the most powerful team in Europe throughout the campaign.

“The important thing is that we always want to play dominantly and we want to put pressure on going forwards and be aggressive. We did that partly well tonight,” said Robben, who tallied the season’s opening goal.

“It’s only normal that when a new coach comes, there are minor changes and these need time. We are not where we have to be yet. Some things can still improve. We will get better in the coming weeks.”

It is worth noting that Bayern also added Dortmund playmaker Mario Gotze in the offseason.
