SEVIERVILLE, Tennessee — A bird refuge in eastern Tennessee has hatched a rare Queen of Bavaria — one of only 5,000 examples of the species in captivity.

Parrot Mountain owner Fletcher Hollingsworth says the new bird is 28-days-old and is hand fed four to five times a day. Hollingsworth told WVLT-TV in Knoxville (http://bit.ly/Ylz80a) that the bird is named Whitney.

The bird currently looks a bit like a plucked chicken. Hollingsworth says it will grow within weeks and get the colors bright yellow feathers with dark green tips. The bird is normally found in the northern jungle of Brazil.

The sanctuary in Sevierville has more than 160 different species of birds, an interactive exhibit and refuge.
