Q&A: Prince Leopold of Bavaria – Neuschwansteiner

Prince Leopold of Bavaria was so impressed with the new luxury line of Neuschwansteiner beer from his state that he became the spokesman for it. He takes time away from his royal duties to tell us about what’s so special about this brew that’s just become available in Hong Kong…

You’re the brand ambassador for Neuschwansteiner. What attracted you to this beer?

When I first met Christian [Seitz] − the CEO of Neuschwansteiner − he introduced me to his new idea of bottling a beer in a champagne bottle. It’s a beer brewed only in March, and you pour it into a champagne glass. And when I drank it the first time, I thought it had a wonderful flavour and I got really addicted to it.

This beer is inspired by a royal recipe. What makes it different?

My family has been in the brewery business for many, many years. But it has always been making the average kind – found in Oktoberfest, consumed in a tankard at a beer garden. Neuschwansteiner operates on a different level. Its bubbles are fine enough to be drunk from a champagne glass and go down just as smoothly.

What impressions do you think Neuschwansteiner will leave on Hong Kong drinkers?
They will think about Bavaria, as this beer gives a little bit of Bavaria back to you. First, the water is naturally purified through the rocky strata of the Alps. Then the beer goes through a unique ‘methode royale’ where it’s pressed through an amber filter during the brewing process. Then there’s, an ice freezing finishing, which drives the alcohol content up to six percent, and gives Neuschwansteiner its renowned flavour, zest and strength. Lisa Cam
