BAY CITY, MI — Pure Michigan on Monday, May 6, launched its summer advertising campaign in local markets throughout the Great Lakes region — a campaign that includes Great Lakes Bay Region and  Frankenmuth TV and radio ads.

The campaign’s television and
radio ads feature 34 private sector partners and will air in key regional
markets and statewide through June, according to a Pure Michigan news release.

Both Frankenmuth
and Detroit have new television spots that will air in markets
including Southern Ontario and Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio, the release states. In Michigan,
Pure Michigan partner ads will run in Detroit, Flint, Kalamazoo, Lansing, Grand
Rapids, Saginaw and Traverse City.

In January, Pure Michigan unveiled the 30-second TV commercial for Frankenmuth.

“The commercial captures the authenticity of the
destination. It has a totally Pure Michigan feel but in a Frankenmuth way,
” Jamie Furbush, Chamber of Commerce chief executive officer and
president, previously told MLive.

The Great Lakes Bay Region TV and radio ads began airing in southern Ontario at the end of April and will for several weeks, said Ken Yarsevich, advertising specialist with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation Travel Michigan.

Annette Rummel, president and chief executive officer of the Great Lakes Bay Regional Convention Visitors Bureau, said the Great Lakes Bay Region attracts visitors from Ontario with its resources, amenities and value.

“Ontario continues to grow in visitors to our region, especially with the value of the dollars being so close,” Rummel said. “And it is such a good value for Ontario residents to come over here because…they save a lot of money, especially in the taxes that they don’t have to pay.”

Yarsevich said the TV and radio ads for Frankenmuth, a year-round partner, also will run for several weeks.

“We’ve seen a lot of interest in both of those regions of the state,” Yarsevich said of the Great Lakes Bay Region and Frankenmuth.

The
advertising budget for the spring and summer campaign is $4,833,681, including
$1,502,779 committed by these partners, according to the release. In total, private sector partners,
including five national partners, are contributing $5.5 million in 2013 to help
air Pure Michigan ads nationally, regionally and in-state. Partner
contributions to the campaign have nearly doubled since 2011.

The Michigan
Economic Development Corporation matches these contributions as part of the
Travel Michigan Ad Partnership Program for an overall partnership advertising
budget of $11 million for the year, according to the release.
