Police have found the body of a missing teenager in a small town near the eastern German city of Dresden after she was kidnapped and reportedly held ransom for 1.2 million euros (1.3 million dollars), a police spokesman said Tuesday.
Police discovered the body in a yard Monday evening in the town of Lampersdorf.
Two men, ages 39 and 61, were subsequently arrested in the Saxon capital, Dresden, and in the southern state of Bavaria.
Identified only by her first name, Anneli, 17, went missing Thursday after she left her parents’ home in a village near Dresden. She was accompanied by the family dog, which has since been found.
German police stepped up their efforts Monday to find Anneli after national daily Bild reported that her family had received a ransom demand.
This prompted police to treat her disappearance as a kidnapping.
Police and the teenager’s parents publicly appealed to the kidnappers on Monday evening. The parents said they would “meet the demands made in order to be able to have our child back in our arms.”
