Ex-Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola was presented as the new manager of Bayern Munich on Monday morning.

It is time to make predictions for the first season of Guardiola leading the Bavarian giants.

Can the Spaniard surpass the glory of last season? The answer is, obviously, no – bearing in mind that the Germans won every single competition they fought for last season.

The real question mark goes to a possible repetition of the latest conquests of Bayern. Keeping in mind that Guardiola was the coach of a team where he was educated and fitted perfectly, Bavaria may represent a somewhat slippery stepping stone.

Jupp Heynckes’ dream season has shown a squad reaching the highest levels that club football has to offer. One great obstacle for Guardiola to excel, the biggest the Catalan ever faced. 

Some observers expect a resurgence of the tiki-taka style on Bayern’s game. It certainly seems a bold move, though it is going against the identity of German tactical mentality. There are some practical terms to study upon.

The Bundesliga is played on the basis of body strength, solid midfield display and good goalscoring capacity from every player on the pitch.

For the ex-Barcelona footballer and coach, this is a gap to overcome in order to get the most of team capabilities and features, since the great fluidity of numerous passes might not be as effective in a most aggressive environment, physically wise.

The rite of passage will be in the way Guardiola deals with the upcoming change of mindset.

If the Spanish manager is able to understand a different prism other than the one he learned in La Masia, he can surely dream of winning more silverware, keeping the German giants on the highest pedestal of European football.
