Just a few weeks ago on the 7th of January, Eleonore Kastner lovingly known as Oma Ella, celebrated her 105th birthday.
Right up until the end, Oma Ella was an active lady, travelling the world and meeting some very distinguished people including the Dalai Lama and our very own Conchita Wurst and Lys Assia. She never took a single day for granted and lived life to the full.
The Eurovision Song Contest has been incredibly honoured to have her as our oldest fan. She became an inspiration for so many when every year since 2011 she attended the competition, being the centre of attention for so many fans and the media alike. Why not take a look at our video snack with her from Copenhagen:
She told us: “my biggest wish is to visit the Final of the Eurovision Song Contest every year as long as I am healthy”, and that her most unforgettable memory was meeting Buranovskiye Babushki, the Russian participants of the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest in Baku.
Although Oma Ella won’t be in Vienna to celebrate the 60th Eurovision Song Contest with us, we know that her enthusiasm and zest for life will continue to inspire us all for years to come.
A condolence page has been set up for Oma Ella on Facebook, where you can leave your messages.
