MUNICH/BERLIN/LOS ANGELES: Philipp Kreuzer and Jörg Schulze have launched a new independent film and TV label, Maze Pictures, which will develop, finance, produce and co-produce a range of original content for the German and international markets.

Maze Pictures is teaming up with Luc Besson’s EuropaCorp Television on The Crimson Rivers, an hour-long co-produced series based on the novel by Jean-Christophe Grangé. The thriller follows two detectives investigating a series of grisly murders.

Schulze’s credits include high-profile documentaries such Philip Gröning’s Into Great Silence and Baran Bo Odar’s first feature film, The Silence. Kreuzer has spent the past ten years working in production, financing and TV distribution for Bavaria Film Group in Germany and Italy. His producer/executive producer credits include Mr. Morgan’s Last Love, Death of a Superhero and the financing of various Bavaria Film Group productions, such as the TV event miniseries The Manns and the feature film Buddenbrooks.

Kreuzer said: “We are very happy to be collaborating with our French partner on this high-quality TV drama series. This project perfectly reflects our strategy and the type of content we aim for with our Maze Pictures TV and feature film slate.”

Schulze added: “With our new company, we have brought together our network of filmmakers, creatives and partners in Germany and abroad. We aim to pursue long-term partnerships to create relevant and original content for cinema and TV, to entertain and inspire both national and international audiences.”
