The beer was flowing in Kirkcaldy this weekend as the biennial Bavarian Beer and Music Festival took place in the Town Square.

And thousands of people took the opportunity to enjoy the festival atmosphere over the course of the four day event.

The event was organised by Kirkcaldy Ingolstadt Association following on from the success of a beer festival in 2012 that marked the 50th anniversary of the twinning link betweek Kirkcaldy and Ingolstadt.

Organisers this week hailed the event as a huge success.

Robert Main, chairman of the association, said: “The event was once again a tremendous success with significant support from the community over the four days.

“We’ve calculated that we had around 8200 visitors to the marquee which is an increase from the previous festival. Part of that can be attributed to the number of football fans visiting on the Saturday afternoon.

“But the parents with young children enjoyed Sunday’s fun afternoon with the variety of music and entertainment.

“Not only did it attract people from the Kirkcaldy community but a range of people from beyond who made an effort to come and savour some of the Bavarian atmosphere.”

Music over the course of the weekend was provided by the Kirkcaldy and District Pipe Band and the Mailing Brass Band from Ingolstadt. Other music was provided by local musicians including Fife Strathspey and Reel Society, The Coaltown Daisies, Folk That, Bruce Davies and Sangsters.

The Mailing Brass Band played pre-match and at half time at Stark’s Park.

Robert continued: “The group had a fantastic time and firmly made new friends with Kirkcaldy and District Pipe Band and they are looking forward to the evening of entertainment on Tuesday, September 20 when they both will play a joint concert at the Adam Smith Theatre.”

And the beer, provided by the independent HerrenBrau brewery in Ingolstadt went down a storm.

Robert added: “We brought over 55 hectolitres of beer and it survived until around tea time on Sunday not long before the end of the festival.

“Everyone seemed to have a great time and we are looking forward to our next event in two years time.

“It went well beyond the expectations and the most I can do is thank the whole community of Kirkcaldy for making it such a success.”
