Medical examiner IDs Parma man who died in Bavaria Avenue fire – The Plain Dealer

PARMA, Ohio – The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the Parma man who died earlier this month in a Bavaria Avenue house fire.

Karl H. Berger, 58, died in a fire that broke out about 4:30 a.m. Oct. 5 in the 5700 block of Bavaria Avenue.

No one else was inside the home at the time.

Investigators have not determined the fire’s cause, a State Fire Marshal spokeswoman said Tuesday. The damage was contained to the home’s top floor.

Neighbors said Berger was a friendly man who loved animals, including his cat, which died in the fire.

“He’d stop in and say ‘hi,’ or he’d play with my dogs when they were in the yard, or he’d say hello to my kids,” neighbor Tracey Jeffery said.

Other neighbors said the man was quiet but friendly, often saying hello on the street or stopping to pet their dogs.
