Luftwaffe Medevacs Peshmerga Fighters

A Luftwaffe C-160 medical evacuation aircraft flew four wounded Peshmerga fighters to Germany Jan. 6.

The aircraft left its base of Penzing in Bavaria for Iraq Jan. 2 and brought back the four fighters, including three walking wounded, who were tranferred to the Bundeswehr hospital in Ulm by a Stuttgart fire department bus with places for stretchers.

During a visit to Iraqi Kurdistan in September, German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen pledged medical support to Peshmerga fighters.
