Luck of the draw: The best and worst Super Bowl XLVIII pool combinations

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Let’s face it: The odds are you or someone you know has invested in a Super Bowl pool.

Whether it’s a $20 box or $2,000 box, either could win you big money if the right numbers hit.

Each pool has different rules, so make sure you’re on the same page with the person overseeing the game.

Some numbers are good — 7, 3, 0 — while others could be terrible, like 2 and 5.

According to Pro-Football-Reference, which tracks NFL statistics across the board, the best combination is 7 and 0 and 0 and 7, which win 3.8 percent of the time.

The next best combination is 7 and 4 or 4 and 7, with each winning 3.71 percent of the time.

In third place, there’s 3 and 0 and 0 and 3 each coming in 3.21 percent of the time.

After that, 1 and 4 or 4 and 1 win 2.23 percent of the time.

Finally, 0 and 4 or 4 and 0, each win just over two percent of the time, and 7 and 7 wins 1.93 percent of the time.

Meanwhile, the combinations you would like to avoid are 2 and 2, which wins only .04 percent of the time, and 5 and 5, which is tied for the second worst number combination with 9 and 9. These combinations each win only .19 percent of the time.

Good luck!
