Leavenworth, Washington was recently named one of America’s prettiest towns by Forbes. This city in Chelan County is a slice of Bavaria represented in the Pacific Northwest.
Leavenworth is a favorite weekend getaway for Seattle residents but also attracts many tourists for its love for the lederhosen and mock-Bavarian village.
With a population of about 2,000, the town was rebranded in 1962 with a theme of Bavaria to help their economy – and it was successful.
Residents and tourists can shop for Swiss-style chocolates, nutcrackers, candies and fun Bavarian clothing.
If you can’t go to Munich for Oktoberfest, Leavenworth has one of the largest Oktoberfest celebrations in the world. The Pacific Northwest landscape is hard to beat, too.
