Jungendkapella Gunzenhausen in Frankenmuth August 22-26
Concerts set at Schau Platz and River Place Fest Platz
Jugendkapelle Gunzenhausen, a 28-member youth band from Bavaria, will be visiting Frankenmuth, Michigan August 22-26, 2013 as the first stop of the band’s 10-day concert tour through Michigan, Ontario, and Ohio. Frankenmuth and Gunzenhausen have been sister cities since 1962.
On Saturday, August 24 at 7pm, the youth band will present a free outdoor concert of European and American melodies at Frankenmuth’s Palmer Schau Platz in Memorial Park. The public is welcome to attend. In case of rain, the concert location will change to Frankenmuth High School’s Bronner Performing Arts Center, 525 E. Genesee St.
On Sunday, August 25, the public is invited to a second free concert by Jugendkapelle Gunzenhausen at 4pm at the Frankenmuth River Place outdoor Festival Platz (located in the center of the complex), 925 S. Main St. The concert is sponsored by the Bavarian Inn Restaurant in honor of its 125th anniversary. Bench seating will be available and guests are welcome to bring their own seating.
Following the band’s Sunday concert, the public is welcome to join the band for a family-style chicken dinner at the Frankenmuth Bavarian Inn Restaurant, 713 S. Main St. The dinner price for adults is $20; children 6-12 years of age $7, and children 5 and under $2. All prices include a non-alcoholic beverage, tax and tip. Reservations must be made in advance by Friday, August 23 at 4pm. Please call Frankenmuth Credit Union at 989-497-1600 to reserve your seats. Press 0 for the operator and let him/her know the names and number of adults and children along with the children’s ages. Payment for the meals will be at the Bavarian Inn Restaurant on August 25. Cash or checks will be collected at the Crest Room door (no credit cards). This will be the farewell for the Jugendkapelle, before they depart Monday morning to continue their concert tour.
Jugendkapelle Gunzenhausen is led by director Mario Hendreich. Erhard Pentza will be the concert Master of Ceremonies. After departing from Frankenmuth, the tour group will visit Niagara Falls, and then travel to Ohio to see Columbus, Sugar Creek, West Liberty, Cedar Point and Cleveland. They will end their tour in metro Detroit to visit Greenfield Village, Henry Ford Museum and the Detroit Zoo before flying home on Tuesday, September 3. Their tour was arranged by Frankenmuth Travel Service. The youth band made previous visits to Frankenmuth in 1998 and 2005.
Frankenmuth-area residents are hosting the 40-member tour contingent from its sister city Gunzenhausen. The visit is coordinated by the Sister City Committee of Frankenmuth. Gunzenhausen and Frankenmuth celebrate their vibrant partnership of 51 years with youth exchange programs, tour opportunities, cultural exchanges, fundraising activities, and many personal friendships.
