Image Entertainment has fallen for “Last Love,” acquiring all U.S. rights to Sandra Nettelbeck’s romantic drama starring Michael Caine.
Image bought the film from producers-financiers Sidney Kimmel Entertainment, Bavaria Pictures GmbH and Kaminski Stiehm. Global Screen is handling international sales at Cannes. “Last Love” was produced by Astrid Kahmke, Frank Kaminski, Sidney Kimmel, Philipp Kreuzer, Helge Sasse and Ulrich Stiehm.
Image will release “Last Love” via ultra VOD in October and then theatrically in markets across the country.
The film, based on Francoise Dorner’s novel “La Douceur Assassine,” co-stars Clemence Poesy, Justin Kirk, Gillian Anderson and Jane Alexander. Caine portray a lonely American widower who learns to loves life again after a chance meeting with a young woman (played by Poesy) while living in Paris — where the entire film was shot. Hans Zimmer scored “Last Love.”
SKE president Jim Tauber, president of production Matt Berenson and Bruce Toll exec produced. German production companies Bavaria Pictures, Kaminski Stiehm Film and Senator film co-produced with Belgium-based Scope Pictures and SKE, in association with Elzevir Films of France.
