Hunt launched for rogue snapping turtle terrorizing town’s lake

Surely it’s only a matter of time before someone makes a horror movie about this. A week ago, an eight-year-old boy on vacation in Bavaria, Germany, was swimming in a lake when he was bitten so hard it severed his Achilles tendon in two places. Zoologists examined the bite and identified the mystery attacker: an alligator snapping turtle nicknamed Lotti. Local townspeople have drained the lake to hunt for the 16-inch-long, 30-pound animal, and the mayor has offered a 1000-euro reward ($1329) for its capture. Alligator turtles are native to North America, and it’s believed Lotti’s former owner must have released it into the lake after turtles were banned in Germany in 1999. [Source]
