The state of Bavaria then expropriated his possessions. But Goering’s daughter, Edda, has petitioned the legal committee for their return.

Ms Goering, who is Hitler’s goddaughter, did not receive a sympathetic hearing. Bavaria’s parliament rejected her petition after a period of consideration lasting a matter of minutes.

Ms Goering’s christening in November 1938 was attended by Hitler and she was photographed stroking the Fuehrer’s cheek. She still lives in Munich and has never publicly criticised her father.
