Munich — “I’m deeply convinced that the relations binding Tunisia and Germany, more particularly with the Land of Bavaria will further develop” Caretaker President of the Republic Moncef Marzouki said, on Friday afternoon, in Munich.

During his talk with Minister-President of Bavaria Horst Seehofer, President Marzouki voiced conviction “that Germany will continue its support to Tunisia’s transition towards more democracy, transparency and good governance,” paying tribute to Germany “for its unconditional support to Tunisia”.

“Contrary to the information spread by other countries, Tunisia is a country of peace and stability” he stressed, calling, in this connection, on German tourists to visit Tunisia.

President Marzouki pointed out that “Germany will lift all reservations issued against Tunisia so as to boost Tunisian tourism” adding that “failing to engage in political actions, German enterprises could have left Tunisia towards other countries.”

The President also said that he started discussions with Germany on the possibility of establishing a Tunisian-German technical university in Tunisia to make the most of the German experience in the field of vocational training.

Besides, he said he had asked Germany to convert Tunisia’s remaining debts into development projects.

For his part, the Minister-President of Bavaria commended the excellent relations binding the Land of Bavaria and Tunisia stressing the two sides’ will to develop bilateral co-operation in several fields.

“Several Bavarian enterprises are operating in Tunisia” he said, noting that “mutual trust is the best way to achieve success of joint projects”.

Additionally, Mr. Seehofer voiced confidence in Tunisia’s ability to successfully draft its Constitution and hold elections in the shortest term possible.

He said that he had accepted the invitation of President Marzouki to visit Tunisia.

During his second day official visit in Germany, President Marzouki also met with economic actors from the Land of Bavaria.
