hanseboot is coming up – and with it a whole range of innovations and premieres from German and European builders, giving a comprehensive overview of the trends in the sailing boat scene from 25 October to 2 November 2014. The popular 10 to 15 metre sailing boat segment is particularly strong in the list of debuts. Hanse Yachts AG are presenting the Dehler 46 and the Hanse 455; Bavaria are showing their current 37 to 46 foot range; and Bénéteau feature the new Oceanis 38 and other current models from their production range.

hanseboot has three more premieres in the 11 to 14 metre range, with the new Xc 45 Mk II from X-Yachts; Nordship 430 DS Classic from Nordship, Denmark; and Vilm 115 from Vilm Yachts, Lauterbach (Island of Rügen. Though the concepts are very different, these new yachts have one thing in common – they are very popular both with ambitious racing crews and with families and cruise sailors, and are suited for regattas and for longer cruising in comfort.

German premiere of Dehler 46 and Hanse 455

The Dehler 46 is a keenly awaited new model, the new flagship from Hanse Yachts AG, Greifswald. It was completed in summer 2014, and will now celebrate its German premiere. It is an elegant yacht with modern lines (design by Judel/Vrolijk), and length overall 14.40m (LWL 12.90m), and is available in three keel variants – with T-bulb keel, draught 2.25 or 2.70m or, for comfortable cruising, an L-shaped keel with draught 1.85m. Alongside cruisers, it is also intended to appeal to ambitious competition crews, not least due to its compatibility with the ORCi formula.

Hanse has another German premiere lined up – the new Hanse 455. The line of this 13.55m yacht has been substantially revamped compared with the previous model, in cooperation with Judel/Vrolijk. The waterline length is 15cm more (now 12.20m). The cockpit is larger, and the forward master cabin has more space. There are also two more cabins aft. The charter version of the new 455 has two cabins forward, but this configuration can be changed depending on customer needs. This latest Hanse design has a 44 square metre self-tacking jib, a 59 sqm mainsail and an optional 52.5sqm genoa (Hanse: Hall B6, stand C.102, Dehler: Hall B6, stand C.120).

Bavaria presents new cruising line models between 37 and 46 foot

With almost as much space as a 40 foot sailing yacht, with high-performance and yet safe sailing qualities like a modern racing yacht – that is how the builder describes some of the characteristics of the new Cruiser 37 from Bavaria. It is a fast cruiser with an exceptional amount of space below deck. The two-cabin version has overall length 11.30m (LWL 10.22m) with four berths. The three cabin version is suitable for crews of up to six. The draught of the 37 varies from 1.95m with a standard keel to 1.63m with optional shallow keel.

The Bavaria Cruiser 46 is the “big sister” of the Cruiser 37, and will also be on show at hanseboot. The 46 not only gives more space, spread over three or four cabins, but also balanced sailing and manoeuvring characteristics and high speed potential. Her length overall is 14.27 metres (LWL 12.75m). She features twin rudder blades, and a new generation of navigation instruments. They are designed for easy, relaxed cruise planning on board the Cruiser 46, by wireless technique on the tablet at the cockpit table.

Another model from Bavaria at hanseboot is the Easy 9.7, with overall length 9.99m (LWL 8.85m), concentrating on the “essentials”. The builder indicates that she is equally suitable for day sailing or as a weekender and for cruising or racing. Her open stern, spacious cockpit and functionally elegant interior, together with an attractive price, are intended to highlight sailing fun, also appealing to newcomers. The uncluttered deck layout and accessibility of the genoa winches from the wheel make the Easy 9.7 with its 51 square metres of sail easy to manage for single-handed sailing or a small crew (Bavaria: Hall B6, stand A.130).

Bénéteau presents the new Oceanis 38

Bénéteau from Saint Gilles Croix de Vie Cedex, France, present the new Oceanis 38, the most versatile yacht in their current range. Length overall is 11.50m (LWL 11.13m). She is designed with a cruise sail concept that gives every owner a free hand in initial configuration. The configuration by architecture office Finot-Conq and the life stage of the owner (Bénéteau, represented by BM Yachting from Flensburg: Hall B6, stand C.101).

X-Yachts present the Mk II version of the Xc 45

X-Yachts from Haderslev, Denmark, showcase the further development of the successful Xc 45, the Mk II. This is the first German presentation of the Mk II, based on the successful Niels Jeppesen design which had its debut in 2009 and was awarded the “Yacht of the Year” title in the same year. The new design incorporates the experience and feedback from some 250 owners of the first Xc. This X-Yachts range is described as the Cruiser Line, and features greater hull depth for more volume on board, a heavier keel for good stability, a broad beam for plenty of space on the aft deck and safety in rough weather conditions, and a versatile sail plan.

A teak deck is now available, as are new hull colours. Length of the Xc 45 Mk II overall is 13.86m (LWL 12.76m). The lighting is all LED above and below deck. Stability improvement is claimed from use of a new keel. The aft cockpit is enhanced by a larger bathing platform and more stowage space. The hull now has bigger windows, giving more natural light.

The new Xc also has improvements in the interior. The pantry is more spacious, and the navigation area and saloon table are bigger; additional drawers have been integrated under the double bed in the master cabin, to give more stowage space. Alongside the Xc, X-Yachts are also presenting their European debut for the new Xp 44 (X-Yachts: Hall B6, stand C.119).

Nordship Yachts presents new classic version of Nordship 430 DS

Nordship Yachts from Lunderskov (Denmark) present the new Nordship 430 DS Classic, another world premiere at hanseboot. This custom build with central cockpit and retractable keel is a further development of the Nordship 430 DS. The client for the Classic version presented in Hamburg wanted even more space and comfort for four people on board than with the successful predecessor model. That was achieved by moving the superstructure further aft, permitting a larger owner area forward, and two en-suite bathrooms at the sides. Access to the rear cabin is via the spacious pantry on the port side; the saloon is opposite, on the starboard side.

The draught of the Classic version, fitted with a hydraulic retractable keel, is reduced from 2m to 1.30m; with completely raised keel, this 13.32m yacht (LWL 11.34m) is even said to be capable of safe grounding. She has displacement of 14 tonnes, and is fitted with 91 square metres of sail, and is on show at the sailing yacht boardwalk in Hall B6 (Nordship: Hall B6, stand C.109, boardwalk No. 2).

Vilm Yachts from Lauterbach presents new deckhouse yacht Vilm 115

Vilm Yachts, from Lauterbach (Rügen), have their new Vilm 115 ready just in time for this year’s hanseboot. This is the premiere for the 11.09m successor of the successful Vilm 101, a motorised sailing boat with a fixed cockpit superstructure, for comfort and protection even in bad weather.

Thanks to hull depth below the waterline of 1.60m, this vessel with 71 square metres of sail is claimed to have excellent sailing characteristics, like the Vilm 37, another new model. She is easy to handle, with a well-thought-out deck plan, high-quality practical arrangement of the fittings, and a standard self-tacking jib. Together with the fixed deckhouse, this ensures “comfortable, pleasurable sailing and motoring with high-quality features.”

“The size and flexibility of our yard enables us to build the new Vilm 115 as a series sailing yacht with a maximum of customised features,” says Vilm Yachts Director Mathias Lenz, commenting on the new Judel/Vrolijk design with a 40hp Volvo Penta engine, presented as a global premiere at hanseboot (Vilm Yachts: Hall B6, stand B.114).

Highlights at hanseboot harbour – Oyster and Contest present new models at in-water hanseboot

Oyster Marine from Ipswich, Suffolk, present the new 17.89m model 575 (LWL 15.72m) at the hanseboot harbour, Baumwall, which is back again this year. This new yacht, developed in cooperation with the owner, is fitted with a number of the features of the successful big sister 625. She has a redesigned interior, and larger hull windows; flush deck hatches; and more practical layout of the spaces below deck.

The chart area is now on the same level as the rest of the saloon seating, and the forward double cabin has direct access to the wet cell. A wider stairwell gives safe and comfortable access to the cockpit. The new Oyster 575 version includes a range of quality features such as a mast from Formula, Raymarine i70 sailing instruments, and the new Volvo D3 engine. The line designed by Rob Humphreys ensures that this yacht is a fast passage maker, with excellent blue-water sailing qualities. The model comes with a choice of keel versions, for variable draught between 1.65 and 3.82m.

Another vessel on show at the hanseboot harbour is the new Contest 42CS. Contest Yachts from Medemblik, Netherlands, present their 12.85m cruiser, which can be ordered in a range of variants – as a family friendly cruiser, a performance variant for competition crews, or as a “short-handed yacht” with good manoeuvring characteristics even for a small crew. Owners also have the choice between various designs of interior, cockpit and stern.
