Berlin, Oct 26 (EFE) .- Some 15,000 asylum seekers arrived this weekend from Austria to Bavaria in southern Germany, according to figures announced on Monday by the Interior Ministry of Bavaria federal state.

Officials from the interior ministry explained that they expect the pressure to be maintained in the coming days, especially as the influx of refugees continues in the so-called Balkan route, bound for Germany.

Around 6,000 immigrants crossed on Saturday the border from Austria and on Sunday the figure rose to 9,000.

Chancellor Angela Merkel’s spokesman Steffen Seibert expressed on Monday Berlin’s satisfaction over the outcome of the high-level meeting held in Brussels to address the refugee crisis.

Regarding the agreement to deploy 400 security officers on the border between Slovenia and Croatia, Seibert noted that the countries concerned must realize in the coming days how effectively it can contribute to this mission.

U.N. reports more than 8,000 refugees entered Serbia on Sunday

Belgrade, Oct 26 (EFE).- More than 8,000 refugees entered Serbia on Sunday, mostly through the southern town of Presevo after arriving from Macedonia through the Balkan route, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, or UNHCR, reported on Monday.

UNHCR spokesman Melita Sunjic told EFE that the situation is under control in Presevo, where there is a shelter and registration center for asylum seekers, while she highlighted the constant increase in the number of refugees since April.

According to UNHCR data, more than 25,500 refugees were registered in Serbia between Friday and Sunday, which adds to a total number of 300,000 since the beginning of the year.

Refugees, mostly Syrians with children, head from southern Serbia to Croatia, where they enter through the border crossing at Berkasovo-Bapska, designated for this purpose.

UNHCR added that 64 Syrian refugees entered Serbia on Sunday from Bulgaria, and almost all of them had symptoms of cold and fever, while ten were admitted to a medical center to receive treatment.

After the migrants reach Croatia their way through the Balkan route continues until Germany and Austria, the main destinations for refugees.
