German tenor performs in concert

01 Nov 2012

GERMAN tenor Hans Wolfgang Graf, from Bamberg, in Bavaria, will be performing in the Lutheran church hall, in Bester Road, Hayfields, at 7 pm on November 9.

The concert is being hosted by the German Club of Pietermaritzburg and forms part of Graf’s third tour of South Africa.

He will also be performing at the German Club in Durban on November 11 and at the Mariannhill Monastery on November 10, where he will be performing in a Catholic church service.

The programme for the Pietermaritzburg event, which will take the form of a supper theatre, includes evergreen German and other popular songs. A light supper will be provided by the club and there will be a cash bar. Entrance to the concert is free, but donations will be collected for local charities supported by the club.

The German Club of Pietermaritzburg has been in existence for more than 50 years and has its own premises at the Royal Showgrounds. Every year, during the Royal Show and the Garden Show, the club offers visitors the chance to enjoy German delicacies and its members meet regularly for socials.

Other overseas performers hosted by the club in recent years include the Shanty Choir from Bremen and the Linz-Austria Boys Choir, which has been in existence for more than 900 years.
