Someone is bound to wear lederhosen, the familiar leather breeches worn by Bavarian men, or a dirndl, the traditional dress worn by women in southern Bavaria and Austria, at the Oktoberfest Saturday in downtown Vacaville.
Sure to have the same prior-year trappings, the free, ninth annual event, co-hosted by Pure Grain Bakery and the Downtown Vacaville Business Improvement District, opens at 11 a.m. and continues to 6 p.m. in Town Square, on Main Street.
Organizers say it is a chance for city residents and out-of-town visitors to enjoy a taste of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Music will be provided by Tony Raymann’s Edelweiss Band, so be prepared to wear out some shoe leather or rubber.
Of course, no German festival can call itself such without plenty of German beers, wines and food, including bratwurst, currywurst and schnitzel. They will be plentiful.
Vacaville’s event comes as its original counterpart, the Munich Oktoberfest, at more than 180 years old, continues to Oct. 4 in Munich, Germany.
