GE toasts a first in Bavaria

GE has seen the first commercial operation of its 2.5-120 wind turbine.

The machine was installed at the Bavarian town of Schnaittenbach two months ago and has now gone live.

The investor and operator on the project is Max Bögl Wiesner GmbH, a joint venture by the Max Bögl Group and Windkraft Oberpfalz GmbH.

The turbine (pictured) is from the US manufacturer’s so-called ‘Brilliant’ platform and is intended to “facilitate the generation of wind energy in densely wooded regions with low wind intensity”.

It has a 120-meter rotor diameter and a specially engineered hybrid tower with a hub height of 139 meters.
