FOUR people were rescued from their stranded yacht on Saturday.

Southend’s RNLI volunteer lifeboat crew launched from the pierhead boathouse at 5pm following reports of a 35ft Bavaria sailing yacht suffering engine failure in the estuary.

The boat was reportedly having difficulties in the windy conditions and the lifeboat soon reached the vessel floating around two and a half miles south east of the pier.

Two adults and two children were found on board the yacht, all safe and well.

The lifeboat towed the yacht safely back to Smallgains Creek, Canvey, where it was safely moored up.
