The Army has announced application rules, deadlines and other information for two prestigious fellowship programs for active-component officers of certain functional areas.

The fellowships are for fiscal 2016-2017 at the George C. Marshall Center for European Security Studies Fellowship or the Asia-Pacific Center.

To compete, officers must submit a DA Form 4187 (request for personnel action) to the Human Resources Command no later than April 30.

Fellowships will begin during the late summer of 2016.

Officers who participate in these programs will incur a 24-month active-duty service obligation. When they graduate, fellows will serve a two-year utilization tour.

Marshall Fellowship

Applicants must be a major or lieutenant colonel assigned to year group 2001, or earlier, and hold a graduate degree.

Applicants for this one-year fellowship in defense and security studies must be assigned to one of the following branches or functional areas:

The fellowship curriculum includes a 15-week study program at the Marshall Center in Garmisch, Germany, followed by duties as a faculty member, researcher and staff member.

Asia-Pacific Fellowship

Applicants must be a major or lieutenant colonel assigned to year group 2001, or earlier, and hold a graduate degree, and be assigned to one of the following specialties:

The fellowship includes 12 weeks of study at the Asia-Pacific Center’s College of Security Studies, Honolulu, followed by research and contributions to lectures, seminars, study groups and conferences.
