John Shegerian, Chairman and CEO of Electronic
Recyclers International (ERI), the nation’s leading recycler of
electronics and e-waste, discussed the promise of the booming
electronics recycling industry and urban mining at the third annual OktoberINVESTFest
yesterday in New York City.
The conference is hosted by Invest
in Bavaria, the investment and location marketing organization of
the German State of Bavaria’s Ministry for Economic Affairs, Media,
Energy and Technology. This year’s OktoberINVESTFest brought together US
and German investors, innovators, industry leaders, Bavarian state
representatives as well as a number of leading North American and German
companies, including ERI.
Addressing an audience of investors and financial analysts looking for
specific insights into the biggest global trends among leading
industrial sectors, Shegerian discussed disruptive technologies and the
steps required to move from being a local leader to a global player. In
his talk, he also stressed the mounting demand for responsible recycling
of electronics from job creation, global human rights, environmental and
data protection perspectives. He also addressed and explained the
long-range national and international potential of electronic recycling
as rapid growth industry.
“It’s a great honor to have been asked to present at this year’s
OktoberINVESTFest event and share both the economic promise and urgent
need for responsible electronic recycling before such an influential
financial community audience,” said Shegerian. “This is an issue and an
industry that knows no national borders, in terms of importance. The
planet’s increasing glut of electronic waste is a global problem that’s
time for resolution is now. Properly disposing of electronic waste and
the hazards it presents has become the touchstone for a major industry
with regional, national and international implications. It’s a rare
privilege too, to be presenting alongside a diverse collection of other
organizations that are also the leaders in their respective fields.”
Rudolf Vidal, Managing Director of FC Bayern Munich LLC, the New
York-based subsidiary of Germany’s most successful soccer team, also
provided a presentation sharing his insights on creating a brand
internationally, and Stefan Jekel, Managing Director, Europe, Middle
East and Africa at the New York Stock Exchange discussed capital raising
and setting up public or dual listings, among other prestigious guests.
