In the spirit of the holy week the Goethe Zentrum here this year too held colourful celebrations at the centre. The children at the summer camp at the centre were treated to fun-filled Easter celebrations and this year they celebrated it with a small music band all the way from Bavaria.
The tiny-tots couldn’t wait to get on with their games and get their gifts that had come all the way from Bavaria.
“In the morning we had a workshop with the children introducing them to Bavaria, its culture, instruments that we play and the like. For the afternoon session the centre has arranged some games for the kids,” says Elvira a member of the band and also a host of one of the games.
The children after being divided into various groups were led to different areas where different games were arranged. Then they were asked to bring the hard boiled eggs that they had brought from home.
“The kids were asked to paint the eggs in the morning for the different games,” says a staff of the centre.
Interestingly most of the games were played with the eggs.
First we met lovely Sandra who plays the Zither in the group with a bowl of delicious looking candies organising egg bowling. Here the children were required to roll an egg down a sloping surface and try to knock off the eggs that are kept on the ground (a miniature version of bowling). It seemed like the enthusiastic kids couldn’t have enough of the game and candies. Next we moved to another station that was being manned by Monica who was enthusiastically encouraging the kids to egg boxing. Above the cheers and claps the little ones on the chair were trying hard to break the other’s egg while trying to keep their own egg unharmed. The winners here were given another set of chocolates. Next we moved to the amphitheatre were a game of treasure hunt or rather instrument hunt was in progress, Guenter who plays the Hackbrett had hidden his instruments for the children to find. They were required to find the instruments and to say the German name of the instrument they found out.
Next we saw Elvira cheering the kids as they were cautiously maneuvering themselves through a maze of chairs with a spoon on which an egg was kept.
The little ones had to take care not to hit the chairs and at the same time had to see to that their eggs stayed on the spoon (a German version of the lemon and spoon).
The children who seemed to be enjoying to the maximum had their eyes set on the big event- the treasure hunt, where colourful eggs are kept hidden and they have to go hunting for their Easter eggs. So before they went on an Easter break children had a wonderful time to remember at the centre.
