Permanent service for families with children / Children also receive special “Best Friend” boarding pass for their teddy or cuddly toy

To mark the start of the school holidays in Bavaria, Lufthansa has today opened Family Check-in counters in Terminal 2 at Munich Airport. The new service is designed to make flying a memorable experience for children, right from the moment they arrive at the airport.

At the Family Check-in desks, children can climb a few steps so they can watch the check-in procedure, receive their boarding pass and also a special “Best Friend” boarding pass for their teddy or cuddly toy accompanying them on their flight. “Lufthansa wants children and families to feel especially at home and we are therefore delighted that we are now also able to offer this new service at Munich,” says Thomas Klühr, Member of the Lufthansa German Airlines Board, Chief Financial Officer Hub Munich. The Family Check-in counters will remain a permanent fixture at Lufthansa’s Frankfurt and Munich hubs. The Family Check-in desks (Counters 425 and 426) are located in the northern check-in area on the Departures Level in Terminal 2 at Munich.

Even from a distance, children and their parents can see where they will receive their boarding passes and check in their bags. As they make their way towards the Family Check-in counters, they go through an arch. Ahead of them, they can see monitors showing the Lufthansa mascots Lu and Cosmo, who welcome the children to the airport. At the desks, Lufthansa service staff then issue family members with their boarding passes and accommodate their seating requests and any special needs. A brochure entitled “Family Guide” is also available at check-in. It contains tips and information for parents about the location of play areas, baby changing facilities, restaurants that provide children’s menus, chemists, supermarkets and the nearest observation deck, as well as vouchers for special offers at the airport.

Detailed information about flying with children has been compiled on a new page on our website at www.lufthansa.com/family. We also recommend that you read the information contained under the headings “Check-in”. “Before the trip” and “Baggage” on the “Info Service” pages at www.lufthansa.com.
