Dangerous Findings – Microplastics in Bavarian Lakes

They found large amounts of plastic, mostly in microscopic form. Sunlight breaks down plastic into tiny particles which are ingested by water fleas, shellfish and fish and so enter the food chain. Additionally, more and more soaps and cosmetics contain plastic microparticles designed to boost their cleansing effects. The researchers do not yet have an answer to the problem – other than to appeal for less dumping of plastic into the environment.
