Coventry Oktoberfest? How much can you expect to pay?

Coventry’s Oktoberfest gets underway in Broadgate today.

Yes, it would appear that it’s quite odd to hold an Oktoberfest in August, but the festival has a long-standing tradition in Germany and organisers are promising to turn Broadgate into Bavaria, with a five-day event that is “just like Munich.”

A gargantuan tent – able to fit 1,750 Coventry residents and drinkers – will be set-up in the city centre, as waiters and waitresses decked in lederhosen hand out all your ale-related needs.

As well as food and authentic German music from bands, the event is family-friendly with free entry.

The organisers are offering a package consisting of beer, food and a guaranteed seat in the tent (not that you’ll be sat down for very long with punters standing on the tables singing!). This costs £34 per person, or £39 on the Saturday of the five-day event.

As part of the package, you will be entitled to a seat reservation, as well as snacks, two one-and-half pints of beer, as well as a bottle of white or red wine. You can also get your hands on Germany Schnitzel, with accompanying fries, and a dessert surprise.

A half-pint at the event will set you back £3, while food is priced at £1.50 for crisps, or £8.50 for Bavarian sausage and fries.

The Mass Beer – which is one and a half pints – is £6.99.

VIP tickets can be purchased, too, with a glass of Schlumberger setting you back £6.50, before a VIP main course of £12.

If you want to be a genuine Bavarian for the evening, they have original Dirndl or Lederhosen for rent for £29.
