A Little Bit Of Bavaria In Cambridge To Celebrate Oktoberfest 2014

Canada’s Greatest Bavarian Festival kicked off in Cambridge Wednesday with Miss Oktoberfest and the whole cast of characters and traditions which goes along with the annual event, including sausage, pretzels and the cracking of the beer keg.

Harry Vogt, President of Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest brought greetings and the official nod to kick-off the satellite event in Cambridge. Hundreds of excited Cambridge and area Oktoberfesters, their families and friends arrived at Civic Square for a free sausage on a bun in celebration of this year’s festival and Region-wide charity fundraiser.

Most people living in the area are not aware of how much Oktoberfest is also an amazing machine of human kindness which helps with countless community initiatives. It is at once, a celebration of the harvest and sharing the bounty of Thanksgiving with our neighbours.

While the luncheon was free to the attendees, there were many contributing sponsors including: MM Meat Shops, Sobeys, Union Gas, the Cambridge Farmer’s Market, Cambridge Self-Help Food Bank, and 107.5 Dave

Lindsay Kalbfleisch of Kitchener is the 46th Miss Oktoberfest. She addressed the fact that it was a fun-filled cultural celebration, but spoke to the importance of safety and common sense throughout the festival.
