Munich. Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev, who is on a working visit to Germany, where he will take part in the 50th Munich Security Conference, met with Chairperson of the Parliament of the Free State of Bavaria (Landtag of Bavaria) Barbara Stamm, the press centre of the President’s Office announced.
Ms Stamm presented before Mr Plevneliev the measures taken at a federal and regional level aiming at restricting the so-called “poverty immigration”, which, according to German MPs, leads to illegal draining of Germany’s social system. In Ms Stamm’s words, it is necessary that differentiated approach is undertaken when dealing with immigrants and sanctions must be equal for all who make improper use of social systems.
She also remarked Germany only profited from highly-qualified immigrants.
The Bavarian officials were interested in the policy Bulgaria conducts in terms of integration of Roma people and the prognoses concerning the flow of immigrants headed for Western Europe after the lifting of the labour market restrictions for Bulgarian and Romanian people.
Rosen Plevneliev said work was done in Bulgaria on the integration of Roma people, including work under EU funds.
Mr Plevneliev remarked the share of Bulgarian Roma people was insignificant, having in mind the total number of immigrants from Roma communities in other Central and Eastern European countries.
He added he had discussed this with French President François Hollande and British PM David Cameron.
Mr Plevneliev remarked there already were a lot of big companies in Bulgaria, which sought to hire highly-qualified specialists, and the connections between business and education had to be strengthened as the economy needed such staff. In this respect the successful German dual education system model of vocational education and training could be applied in Bulgaria as a measure aiming at decreasing youth unemployement, which is a major European problem stemming from the global economic crisis.
