BMW X2 Rendered: Another Sport Activity Coupe from Bavaria? – Autoevolution.com

It looks like BMW won’t stop until it has an X model for each number from 1 to 7. At the moment, we have the X1, X3, X4, X5, X6 and the X7 in the works, confirmed by the Germans. The only one that’s missing is the X2.

We told you a while back that the Munich-based company registered the trademark for the X2 nameplate, hinting at a possible new model that would fit right between the X1 and X3 models.

According to the naming philosophy, in place these days, the X2 would have to be a sort of Coupe, a more stylish alternative to the X1. Of course, that also means it would be less practical as a downside.

However, all of this is just speculation at this point, just like this rendering. That’s because BMW never confirmed such rumors and only dismissed them as ‘ludicrous’. Well, that may be the case but various ‘sources’ around the internet are claiming that the X2 is actually coming.

If it is, it will be using the same UKL platform as its X1 brother and will have the same 1.5-liter and 2-liter 3- and 4-cylinder power plants under the bonnet. That also implies the fact that the interior will be identical up to the rear bench.

Will it come to life? Probably. That’s because the SUV fever apparently took over the world and you can’t buy a new car unless it’s high off the ground.

Will it be successful? Also quite probable, particularly in Europe and the US. However, it first needs to be approved and we’re not sure that already happened.
