MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the minister, the Bavarian authorities are entitled to seize any cash and property belonging to migrants in excess of 750 euros (some $820).

“The practice in Bavaria and the federal regulations in asylum law essentially correspond with the procedure in Switzerland,” Herrmann told the German Bild newspaper.

In the neighboring Baden-Wurttemberg state, police can confiscate cash and valuables worth over 350 euros, the media outlet reported.

In Switzerland, the Asylum Act allows the state to withhold assets from refugees, who are obliged to hand overall assets exceeding 1,000 Swiss francs (almost $1,000) to the authorities upon arrival.

Denmark’s government plans to amend its Aliens Act to impose stricter rules for family reunification and obtaining permanent residency, as well as, including provisions to permit the confiscation of refugees’ belongings worth $436 or more to co-finance their stay in the country.
