CANNES — Christian Franckenstein has been appointed as co-CEO of Bavaria Film, one of Germany’s leading film and TV companies. He will serve alongside Achim Rohnke.
Franckenstein joins from MME Moviement, where he was chairman and CEO. He’ll start in the fall. He replaces Matthias Esche, who left the company in February.
Rohnke served as co-CEO with Esche from 2008, and since Esche’s departure, he has led Bavaria on his own. He will remain as CEO of the company, and will be responsible for the home entertainment division.
Bavaria’s activities include film and TV production, and international sales, through Global Screen, which is a joint-venture with Telepool. It also owns the Bavaria Studios production facility, which has 20 stages split across two sites outside Munich.
Bavaria’s film productions have included Dominik Graf’s “Beloved Sisters,” which premiered at the Berlin Film Festival, “Mr. Morgan’s Last Love,” which starred Michael Caine, and “Reasonable Doubt,” starring Samuel L. Jackson.
